Firefighter Accused In 2nd Sex Attack, Suspended
07/31/2010 --
A second woman has come forward, claiming that a Daytona Beach firefighter accused of raping and impregnating another woman also tried to rape her on the same night.
Authorities in Daytona Beach arrested Adam Silva after he turned himself in Friday afternoon, but he was released within a few hours and allowed to sneak out the back door -- to avoid the swarm of reporters waiting out front to ask him tough questions.
Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood was disgusted. He told Local 6 the "special treatment in jail" and $5,000 bond set by Judge Patrick Kennedy could cause Silva's alleged victims to lose confidence.
"I'm appalled. Shocked. It's a slap in the face to both these victims that a judge would set bond at $5,000 on this sexual predator," Chitwood said.
Multiple calls and messages to Volusia County Spokesman Dave Byron's home and cell phones from Local 6 seeking the jail's response to Chitwood's "special treatment" allegations went unanswered over the course of nearly two hours Friday night -- and were not returned.
"In 23 years of police work, I have never seen anything as despicable and disgusting as is being done in this case right now," Chitwood said.
